Power 100 Social Media Rankings for Credit Unions

The top 100 credit unions on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube ranked by their overall social media activity during the second quarter of 2014.

The Financial Brand enables Power 100 users to rank banks and credit unions by their overall level of social media activity. These rankings are based on a score calculated in the following manner:

  • 1 point for every 1,500 Facebook ‘Likes’
  • 1 point for [Facebook ‘Talking About’] x [Facebook Engagement Rate] ÷ 20
  • 1 point for every 500 Twitter followers
  • 1 point for every 1,000 tweets sent
  • 1 point for every 15,000 YouTube video views
  • 1 point for every 50 YouTube subscribers

While the system is subjective, it has been carefully weighted (1) to adjust for the relative value of each social channel, (2) based on the range and averages for the financial industry, and (3) to adjust for the ease/difficulty of growing an audience in each channel.

  3. #100 – is this Conexus Credit Union in Canada OR Connexus Credit Union in the United States?

    You have the spelling for the Canadian CU but the area is listed as the USA.

    It’s you guys — the Canadian Conexus (spelled correctly). We had incorrectly listed you as based in the US. We’ve fixed it on this list here, and in the master database.

  5. While the survey is interesting, it does not report nor adjust for social media activity as a function of size. To provide context it should at least show, if not factor in, members or perhaps the institution’s relative ranking of members. If there is a close correlation between member rank and social media rank, then the data is much less informative.

  6. Hello,

    I wonder how Youtube views is calculated? I did a spot check for Servus Credit Union by going to their Youtube Channel website “youtube.com/user/ServusCredItUnion/videos” and saw that they have 10 videos for a total of 234k views, and that includes views for videos that was posted 7 months ago. I suspected the data is weighted to compare with the rest of the CUs?

    Many financial institutions run more than one YouTube channel. In such instances, The Financial Brand picks the one with the most views for inclusion in the Power 100 database. In this case, Servus has a YouTube channel for its Gen Y “Young & Free” program (https://www.youtube.com/user/youngfreealberta/about). Today, this channel has over 600,000 video views.

    There is no weighting of any data reported/presented in any of the Power 100 lists. The only calculation of any kind is the (admittedly subjective) scoring system used for ranking the overall Power 100 lists aggregating fans, followers and views.
