Numerica Credit Union President & CEO Carla Altepeter recently took a road trip around Spokane, making stops at five different non-profit organizations, and giving them each $5,000.
The donation was a surprise for the organizations, which included: Our Place Community Ministries, Safety Net, Christ Clinic, Christ Kitchen and Blessings Under The Bridge.
“One of the highlights of my year was CEO on the Road,” Altepeter said about the event. “I enjoyed seeing the surprise on their faces when the Numerica team showed up to give them the check.”
A few Numerica employees decided to tag along to capture the reactions on video. The video can be viewed from Numerica’s Facebook Page or on Vimeo.
When asked why she wanted to spend the afternoon to hand-deliver donations rather than mailing them, Altepeter answered, “We were able to learn more about what they do and it allowed them to share stories with us. We were inspired by the grace with which they do their work.”
Key Takeaway: Don’t mail checks to the charities you support. Have someone hand deliver them whenever possible. You can make it a photo-op and turn it into a PR story, but you don’t have to. The point is to express your financial institution’s deep, personal commitment to the charity, and that your support is more than just financial. It shows you take a genuine interest in their organization.
