Members Get Free PC Support From GTE Federal’s ‘Techs On Tour’ Roadshow

GTE Federal Credit Union has partnered with CDW to provide members free computer checkups in the “Techs-On-Tour” roadshow.

Techs-On-Tour allows members to bring their computers — desktops, laptops, or iPads — to select GTE Community Financial Centers for a FREE computer checkup. One of the objectives of this service is to ensure that members are adequately equipped to utilize the full range of virtual services GTE offers, such as online banking, bill pay, peer to peer payments, and remote deposit capture.

CDW technicians test basic computer functionality and run a diagnostic check that looks for viruses, malware, adware, spamware, and also perform a registry clean. They verify wire and wireless internet connectivity, as well as the adequacy of installed security software, such as antivirus programs and firewalls.

The service is currently only available to existing members.

Through the partnership GTE has built with CDW, the Techs-On-Tour events cost GTE nothing; they are completely sponsored by CDW.

GTE says Techs-on-Tour is a strategic differentiator that enhances its member experience. They hope that someday it may be a service that could eventually attract non-members.

Since June 2011, Techs-On-Tour has worked on over 300 computers. The credit union says it’s achieved an 85% success rate identifying and solving issues right there on the spot for free. Based on comparable services from retailers, GTE estimates it has saved members over $90,000, an average retail value of $299 per tech visit.

These events have become so popular that GTE and CDW have agreed to continue them through 2013.

“Technology is changing how people manage their finances,” said Chad Burney SVP/Virtual Banking & CIO, GTE Federal. “When conducting this kind of business, the ability, speed, and security of members computers is key. Every computer the Techs-On-Tour events fix restores peace of mind and adds complete confidence, which is essential for integration into the online and virtual banking world.”

“Working in the back operations of an organization, it’s difficult for the I.T. department to have a direct impact on making a real difference in the lives of our members” Burney adds. “With ‘Techs on Tour’, we can finally partake in the unique credit union philosophy of people helping people.”

GTE Federal Credit Union is based in Tampa Bay. The credit union has $1.5 billion in assets and serves 179,000 individuals and businesses throughout West Central Florida.
