I support this shift towards financial & consumer responsibility! These contests make more sense than a contest as simple as a drawing to pay off someones credit card debt. This "revolution" of savings challenges allows participants including those who are watching to learn how to spend and save wisely so they can make more informed purchasing decisions the next time around. Not to mention, if these banks successfully draw a following they'll be able to build and maintain a relationship, albeit a small one, with potential customers for much longer than traditional advertising allows. I almost feel like this economic/failing banks fiasco has been a blessing in disguise. It seems like customers are now stepping up and showing the banks that they need more quality service and even guidance. I hope our culture continues to move towards intelligent spending and savings...for example choosing to buy quality products that last longer over products you'll have to replace shortly or saving to make larger purchases with cash rather than credit. I love it! And I think I could win one of these contests...
