This is a great article that summarizes and quantifies the trends in consumer mobile banking. The observation that mobile is just one of many channels is key. Too many people are thinking about mobile as the be-all and not realizing that for good reason it will coexist with the other channels such as web, ATM, and dare I say - branch banking. This is a revolution, but exactly the same as when bankers 20 years ago argued whether online banking was for real or just a fad. And the same as when they questioned ATM banking 40 years ago. History proves that consumers want multi-channel access to their money - and the channels that survive are those that provide a unique capability and benefit. Mobile banking is just the latest channel that banks must support with vigor - and of course - at no additional charge.
